A new beginning

This post is a part of Write Over the Weekend, an initiative for Indian Bloggersby BlogAdda.

It was a long wait for our meeting. I had to wait for few months before I could see her. Time was the spoil sport. Days and nights looked longer than ever. With each passing day my restlessness to meet her only increased. She was near me and yet so far. The D day arrived. I was going to meet her soon. There was anxiety, fear and also happiness. So many emotions at the same time.
She entered silently. That made me tense and I was relieved only after hearing her cry. It was few minutes before I could hold her. Her beautiful eyes were now open and she was not crying anymore. It was  our first meeting, a talk-less meeting.
The day she entered our life was a new beginning. The beginning of parenthood, beginning of everlasting joy, beginning of unconditional love, beginning of a new beginning.

A special day!

Today is a special day as my daughter completes nine months. We treated ourselves to some pizza pasta today. Of course, we didn't give my baby any.

She was so tiny when we brought her home.  It seems like I delivered her just yesterday. She is growing bigger and cuter each day. My little one is sleeping like a baby in her cradle as I am typing this post and I just can't take my eyes off her.

Wishing and hoping she has a bright future ahead!

Five Sentence Fiction - Glimmer

This post is written for Five Sentence Fiction

She was happy and content looking at the glimmer in their eyes.
As usual, they had thanked her in loud voices.
She missed her son studying abroad, no doubt about it.
She found solace in cooking food and spending time with the children in orphanage.
She tried to find her son in each one of them.

When my smart phone went missing...

This post is a part of Write Over the Weekend, an initiative for Indian Bloggersby BlogAdda.

When my smart phone went missing
I had lesser things for doing
No more Whatsapp messaging
Or Facebook status updating

When my smart phone went missing
I got a book for reading
Also got some time for napping
Me and daughter were together playing

When my smart phone went missing
Looked around to see whats happening
Not by googling and browsing
Meeting people and talking

When my smart phone went missing
I went for shopping
There was a phone smart and sparkling
In the place I was shopping

When my smart phone went missing
The new phone was very tempting
I made up my mind for buying
The phone I saw while shopping

When my smart phone went missing
And I was back from shopping
My husband asked  "what are you holding?"
I said "A new phone for replacing!"

My first haiku

No activity on my blog since past two days and my wish to post more often resulted in this simple haiku.

Chill breeze racing itself, won the race
Lights dimmed before the night
My baby woke up bright from nap

Me and Her - A Short Story

This post is a part of #WillYouShave activity at BlogAdda in association with Gillette

She sounded very happy. I was happy too. As I put down the receiver I recollected all the lovely moments spent with her. "Aaaah.." She would scream whenever I gave her a peck on her cheek. "Why don't you shave every day?" She would then say rubbing her smooth cheek and running away from me. I would run behind her, catch her and stroke her soft hair. "OK Darling! I am going to shave today just for you." She loved watching the strokes while I shaved. She would then kiss me on my hairless face and hug me.

The doorbell broke my reminiscence of 20 years old. When I opened the door the milk man stood there with his usual smile. I looked at the clock. It was 6:00 am exactly. She would arrive at the airport only at 10 pm. But these few hours seemed longer than the years I spent without seeing her, of course barring the Skype sessions we had regularly. Even on Skype she would complain if she saw my unkempt face. She always liked to see me well groomed. I was aging, growing old. It didn't matter to her.

I somehow spent my day looking at the clock a hundred times. Clock was ticking slower. When I could not think of anything else I called a cab to take me to airport. I was at the airport couple of hours early. My restlessness grew each minute. My heart was pounding when I heard the announcement of the arrival of her flight. An elder gentleman was the first one to arrive. Behind him came a happy looking couple. People then started coming in groups. A few minutes later she appeared, her eyes searching for me. She increased her pace when she found me. She was now right in front of me. She kissed me and hugged me. "I missed you, Appa". She said softly controlling her sobs. Tears ran down my clean-shaven face.

The next day, among other gifts from her was the Gillette electric shaver. I cared for her and she cared for me.

The Gift - A Short Story

She had come with a gift from my father. It was my second day in my marital home. She smiled and asked me how I am. I replied with silence. She didn’t question any further. She looked around and found a place to sit. We sat facing each other. I looked at her and felt the compassion in her eyes.

My thoughts flashed back to the conversation we had few days back.

We were best friends and she had shared her marital problems that day. Though a princess herself she had married a soldier. Their love marriage seemed to have failed. She felt her husband no longer loved her. But she would not give up and do everything to make her marriage work. While she shared her story, I boasted of my beauty and high expectations. “The more I know of the world, the more I am convinced that I shall never see a man whom I can really love. I require so much!” These were the exact words I told her.  I had rejected many a marriage proposals from handsome kings and charming princes. I was yet to meet a man who could fascinate me. I was lost in my thoughts and she in hers. I looked at her and felt the sadness in her eyes.

The very next day my eyes fell on him. The handsome youth with great valor. His sharp eyes and radiant face matched my lotus-shaped eyes and deep dimpled face. His tight muscled body was the exact fit for my slender frame. It was love at first sight for us. I confided about my love to my friend. I told her I was wrong when I said I shall never see a man whom I can really love. I had found my love and he made me complete. She congratulated me. I looked at her and felt the delight in her eyes.

My life bloomed with his presence. We spent days together just looking at each other. When he finally bid me farewell he said he will come back to take me with him. He kept his promise. He came back only to win my hand in my swayamwar. As he led me out of the palace to take me with him, I held my head high in pride. My friend stood there waving her hands at me. I looked at her and felt the jealous in her eyes. Was she envious of the fact that I will have a perfect happy married life?

I can no longer feel the jealous in her eyes. She handed over the diamond necklace gifted to me by my father. We sat for some time without either of us saying a word. She stood up and said “Draupadi, take care!” She sounded assertive. I looked at her and felt the fearlessness in her eyes. She then turned away to leave. I kept gazing till her figure faded away. She brought with her not only the diamond necklace but my obscured courage. Courage was the much needed gift at that moment. I realized my strength. I was now ready to face my life ahead.

I did take care of myself and my five husbands.

Note: This is an imaginary piece with Draupadi, wife of pandavas as the centre of the story.

Five Sentence Fiction — Trust

The below post is for Lillie McFerrin’s Five Sentence Fiction

She fell down with a loud thud.
Tears dripped as she cried out, but the next moment she was all fine.
There was a smile on her face as she explored the round red object.
Her mother stormed from the kitchen and hugged her.
It was now the mother's turn to cry.

That white little thing!

Two little white things popping out
Making their mark in your mouth
One by one, they will grow in number
When you are awake or in slumber

Your toothless grin will be soon gone
A flashing smile will be seen one dawn
Smiling with little mouth open wide
You are my biggest pride

My Baby - First Day

A Poem on my little daughter

A tiny you are a big huge charm
Slipped so easily into my arms

With twinkle in eyes and dimple on cheeks
You came to give me only joys

A cry here and a cry there
Is how you talked and made me hear

In the silence between you and me
Like nothing else bonded we

You smile in sleep and frown too
While I smile looking at you

I know ahead are tiring days and sleepless nights
You are worth all of that my little delight

Life...

I asked me
Do I have a dream?
With no answer
I remained silent

A job well paid
A happy family
And a normal life
I have it all

I have complaints too
A big list of that
I have worries and problems
Yes, I am human too

A treasure hunt to play
Life is a search game
Game with a start
But the end not known

What do I do now?
Find that passion
Look for that essence
And keep the game in progress
